About the Series
Tea Talks was created with middle schoolers in mind. The age where kids start asking big questions and quietly wishing for a place to belong.
It began as a cozy book club and quickly became a space students asked to return to. A place to slow down, sip tea, explore stories by AANHPI artists, and express who they are through art and conversation.
“This series came from my own middle school love of reading and wanting a safe space to imagine freely and feel represented,”
Shares AGI Program Coordinator Annabel Kaey.
At its core, Tea Talks focuses on belonging and connection. Students explore how different parts of identity intersect. Culture. Interests. Emotions. Creativity. Lived experience. They practice reflection, self-expression, and being in community without feeling rushed or needing to explain themselves.
This year’s theme, Poetry Collages, invites students to read and listen to poetry and music by AANHPI artists, then respond through hands-on collage-making. As they create, students explore how their AANHPI identity connects to other parts of who they are and reflect on how they see themselves. The process encourages curiosity, creativity, and thoughtful vulnerability, while gently challenging students to look at identity in new ways.
Each student receives a personalized Tea Talks kit created by Annabel, adding care and continuity across the series.

Read and reflect on a poem together

Create a collage using materials gathered in session 1
Add new elements that reflect growth and insight
What to Expect in Session 3 -📍Virtual
The final session brings the creative process full circle. Students will:

Write additional lines of poetry
Complete their second collage
Choose to combine both collages into one final piece
Reflect on what shifted across the series
Art Display Opportunity
Students who would like to share their work will have the option to participate in a small community art display at a local coffee shop. This is completely optional and designed as a celebration of creativity, not a performance. Students choose whether or not to participate, and there is no expectation to share beyond their comfort level.
Location details will be shared with interested families closer to the event.
Registration closes February 20, 2026
