About the Series

What if you could design your own café that brings people together and gives back to the community?

☕️Café for a Day is a hands-on, creative series where high school students plan, design, and run their very own café. Inspired by their experiences with food and drink, participants will work together to build a space that fosters community and connection. All proceeds from their final café will support a local organization or cause chosen by the group.

Together, we will learn from the team behind Coffee Sarap, a Denver café rooted in Filipino hospitality and care. Students will get a behind-the-scenes look at how the café operates, try new flavors, and discover how local businesses can be a force for community care and social good.

What to Expect in Session 1

Get ready for a behind-the-scenes look at Coffee Sarap, a Denver café rooted in Filipino hospitality and community care. Students will:

  • Enjoy food and drinks while observing the environment and ambiance.

  • Reflect on flavors that represent their culture or memories.

  • Meet co-owners Chelsey (she/her) and Hannah (she/her), learn their story, and explore how values shape a café’s mission.

  • Begin brainstorming a vision, purpose, and name for their own future café.

This session sets the tone for the creative planning and collaboration to come!

What to Expect in Session 2

It’s time to bring ideas to life. In this session, students will:

  • Finalize their café name, menu, and theme.

  • Choose music, decor, and activities that reflect their café’s mission.

  • Decide where their fundraising proceeds will go.

  • Assign roles and prepare for the final event day.

This virtual workshop will give students the chance to collaborate, share ideas, and set the stage for the big day!

What to Expect in Session 3

This is the big moment. Students will:

  • Set up, prepare, and run their pop-up café.

  • Serve food and drinks, welcome guests, and share the story behind their concept.

  • Donate all proceeds to the local organization or cause they selected together.

This final celebration is where everything comes full circle, a space built with care, creativity, and heart.

  • The Coffee Sarap team will guide students through flavor and menu development, while AGI supports logistics and materials.

About the Storytellers

Chelsey Solemsaas and Hannah Cambronero

Entrepreneurs and Creators of Coffee Sarap

Chelsey (she/her) and Hannah (she/her) are the co-owners of Coffee Sarap, a Denver café rooted in Filipino hospitality, creativity, and community care. As Filipino American women, they grew up seeing limited representation of Asian women in leadership and entrepreneurship and are passionate about being that visibility for future generations.

Beyond their café, they hold many roles, mothers, wives, and community builders, who find joy in cooking and yoga, and in every opportunity to share their love of Filipino food, especially desserts infused with ube and pandan.
